Skype + Transcription?

May 4, 2006

Skype announced a new feature with the launch of the new version of Skype. You can read about it here. For me, basically it opens up a lot of opportunities. We can now offer transcriptions of Skypecasts (as well as any other recorded regular Skype call) since we can just listen in during the conference and give them the full transcript of the proceedings a couple of days after.

We'll take care of the nitty-gritty, you get a full transcription of your media, audio or video. Simple, ain't it?

New Service in Town

December 19, 2005

I haven’t been posting for a while due to the holiday rush but we have someone new in the block.

Podtranscript Podtranscript is a new services that offers the podcast transcription at 10 USD/ 30 minute segment. There are just a few details up on the site besides that but they offer a free no-obligation trial. Currently, they transcribe 10 minute segments for free.
Maybe I can be part of this? I dunno…

New Sample

December 7, 2005

You can read my new sample here or at the link in the sidebar. It’s from the Podtech.net podcast during the Telecosm Conference.

It talks about syndicating Silicon Valley, moving businesses to the heartland and Life 2.0, in general.

Some new buzz

December 5, 2005

I’ve noticed a bit of a buzz on the topic of podcast transcription lately

1) Michael Arrington at Techcrunch wrote again about this here. I’ll be trying to offer my services, direct, to ‘castingWords myself since their Mechanical Turk offering seems a bit low for even me (around 25c/minute), though it could fill up downtimes.
2) Pinoy Tech Blog also has a write up here. We certainly can do this service, though maybe not full-time since you really should be doing professional transcription for medical and legal services if you want the big bucks.

3) Enablr seems to be down. Me and Ken King have thrown some emails at each other, but nothing final as of yet. They have a service called transcribr that will handle this and we’d like to take up his offer as his offshore labor. Hope he can drop us a line since both his websites seem to be down.
4) Contacted John Furrier at PodTech.net. Hope he responds soon!

5) Still need a Paypal account. We can’t seem to get their service in the Philippines. Help!

I did another sample transcription here. It’s the update speech of Steve Jobs introducing the new iTunes 5 and the Motorola ROKR.

Stormpay

November 24, 2005

Would have been nice, but I don’t have a ISP provided email addy. Sucks.

Still searching for payment options…

Xoom!

November 23, 2005

I’ve just made an account in xoom.com to handle payments.

They have a 25 US$ minimum when sending, though. I could credit the excess for future transcriptions, but I’m gonna look for something that will handle stuff as low as 10US$.

I also added buttons, just don’t use them yet!

Still researching…

November 23, 2005

The recent article in techcrunch got me thinking of offering this service. I’m still studying how to do it, and coming from a country that does this thing for cheap, I think I can pull off a decent service with minimum cost.

To Do:

1) Set-up a way to get payments

2) Get a decent webhost, so I can have my own space

3) Get a domain name. While podwriter.com is already taken, podwriter.net is not.

Everything is going to be human-edited (we’ll set aside using tech later). Hope to get this off the ground soon!
